É dada uma pequena descrição dos principais caracteres morfológicos de dois híbridos interespecíficos triplóides (C. arabica x C. canephora); seu crescimento é normal e a forma e tamanho das fôlhas e das flores intermediários entre as duas espécies. 2. A microsporogênese é dada em detalhe ; esperadas anormalidades foram observadas na distribuição dos cromosômios na 1.ª e na 2.ª divisão, resultando a formação de grãos de pólen estéreis, extremamente variáveis em tamanho. 3. | 1. The present paper represents the final report of the experiment about the constancy in a clon of the orange "Baianinha" which has been studied during the past four years. 2. The trees were obtained by grafting buds taken from one tree, 17-2, of the "Asilo" in Piracicaba, on non-selected seedling root stock of sour orange. 3. The fruits were collected separately for each tree and their diameter (in mm) determined. The test "within-between" showed clearly that the variation between the means of trees and within trees are of a totally different order, the former being about 10 times bigger than the latter. 4. | This article deals with the observations made in the ovule and development of the macrogametophyte in Coffea arabica L. var. monosperma. The young ovule is normally constituted by a rudimentary nucellus surrounded by a single and well developed integument. No irregularities are found until the beginning of the first meiotic division in the ma-crosporocyte which is situated inside the nucellus. The two meiotic divisions are very abnormal and during this process, 44,4 % of the otherwise normal macrospores degenerate. Only. a few normal macrospores are formed. | 1 - The present paper deals with the results of studies on pollen fertility, number of seeds per fruit and frequency of polyembryony in Citrus. 2 - The pollen may be divided into four groups of which the first consists of the living and functional grains, colouring deeply with carmín acetic, germinating in sugar solutions fairly well. The remainny three types : half filled grains, empty grains, and small deformed grains are all inviable. 3 - The grains are generally spherical, 15 to 40ix in diameter. The material was obtained from experiments by Moreira (18), in progress at the Experimental Station, Limeira, São Paulo, and from experiments by Vasconcelos (1), in progress in the Experimental Orchard at Piracicaba, São Paulo. | As caraterísticas geológicas, físicas e químicas, de 22 entre os principais tipos de solos do Estado de S. Paulo, são estudadas. A descrição dessas caraterísticas é feita quantitativamente por meio de uma série de 56 diagramas, cuja significação e método de leitura estão explicados. | The object of the present paper is a study of the usefulness of two relative measures of variation, the well known coefficient oj variation and a new term proposed in this paper and called the index of variance. These terms are defined by the equations : coefficient of variation : σ% = s /v/v. 100 index of variance :σ/ √. 1. It is shown that, for theoretical reasons, only the index of variance may be expected to be constant. | A variedade maragogipe do Coffea arabica L. foi encontrada pela primeira vez por Crisógono José Fernandes, em 1870, no município baiano de Maragogipe onde, provavelmente, se originou por mutação. Desde 1933 esta variedade vem sendo estudada pela Secção de Genética do Instituto Agronômico do Estado de São Paulo, em Campinas, com o fim de se determinar a sua constituição genética. Muitas autofecundações, cruzamentos e back-crosses foram, então, realizados. Grande parte das plantas obtidas só puderam ser classificadas após a colheita do ano de 1940. | Observations were made with tobacco plants which, after being naturally infected in the field by the virus of "vira-cabeça", a disease identical to spotted wilt (3), not only resisted to it, but exhibited complete recovery. Several trials were carried out in order to ascertain the following points : 1) whether the recovery means a greater degree of individual constitutional resistance ; 2) whether it represents an acquired immunity or ; 3) whether it is just of pure accidental nature. | 1. Plantas tetraplóides e octoplóides foram obtidas de sementes de Gosjypium herbaceum e G. hirsutum, tratadas com colchicina. 2. As sementes de G. herbaceum eram bastante homozigotas e reagiram em regra mais uniformemente para o alcalóide do que as de G. hirsutum. 3. A microsporogênese em G. hirsutum octoplóide (2n = 104) é descrita com algum detalhe; algumas irregularidades cromosômicas foram observadas; os grãos de polen são maiores que os das plantas tetraplóides normais.
